SteamyRomanceBooks.com is a busy little beaver! In fact, their getting SO big that when they were contacted for this interview, they were in the middle of an expansion project! They give readers 3 simple options for their reading pleasure: G-rated, Steamy Romance, and Erotica {personally, prefer the G-rated stuff is preferred – being vanilla and all 😉 }.

___________________________________________________________

1. Do you see more sales come from your G-Rated, Steamy Romance, or your Erotica section?

___________________________________________________________

Without a doubt, the majority of the sales come from the erotica section. This is mainly a function of the type of traffic we drive to our site. We target erotica readers in our marketing, many of whom subsequently sign up for our mailing list and buy books. So they represent the majority of our sales.

2. Do you help Authors promote their Erotic short stories as well?

___________________________________________________________

Yes, we carry plenty of short stories on our site. We find that they sell well if they’re priced appropriately. In fact, we recommend that series authors use a free or 99 cent novella to introduce a series. It’s a great way to expose more people to their writing. You would think as booksellers we wouldn’t want authors to give away books for free or charge only 99 cents, but it works well for us. We add one free book and one to three 99-cent books per day to our site. The free books help us attract new customers and the 99-cent books increase the number of Amazon sales, which in turn raises the percentage of commission we receive. So it’s a win-win.

3. Do you arrange things like Virtual Book Tours for Authors?

_____________________________________________________________

No, we stick to just providing a sales platform through our site. There’s plenty of work involved with doing that well!

4. How did you get into the business of selling Erotic EBooks?

____________________________________________________________

We started out wanting to create a place to put erotica that was submitted to our generic book site, FreeDiscountedBooks.com. It’s a family-oriented site, so we felt erotica would be better-placed elsewhere. And of course we knew that romance was the largest genre in Kindle, so we wanted to be able to focus on that.

We actually had a lot of tame romance titles when SteamyRomancebooks.com started. They’re still on the site. But we found that there was much more demand for erotica. The more we figured out how to capture that market, the more we focused our site offerings on erotica. So it kind of took place over time. During that process, we carved a niche for ourselves as a site with high standards. We’re a little choosy about what we post, so that readers on our mailing list or who visit our social media pages will always know they’re getting great book recommendations.

5. Do you work with any agents?

___________________________________________________________

We haven’t as yet, but we’re about to do an outreach campaign to publishers to educate them about our site. I realize the publishers are the step after agents, but they go hand-in-hand.

 ___________________________________________________________

6. Do you think Erotica writers should seek agents?

___________________________________________________________

We established our FreeDiscountedBooks.com site to help indie authors promote themselves, so we’re definitely slanted toward indie publishing. We’ve seen time and again that if an author takes the time to educate themselves about what works and invests the time and money in promotion, success is available through that route. But not everyone has the time, energy and /or money to do that. In those cases, seeking an agent might be a much better solution.

Thanks again for the opportunity!
